Port Augusta outreach for architecture students

Ideas from the people of Port Augusta are being sought as part of a new outreach project by University of 米兰电子 architecture and landscape architecture students, working in collaboration with the Port Augusta Secondary School.

On Friday 23 August, students from the University's will team up with Port Augusta secondary students to conduct a community consultation at key locations around the city.

The consultation is part of a semester-long project that will see University students developing new design concepts that could benefit the school's Youth Engagement Strategy and its place in the community.

Port Augusta residents will be asked to give their thoughts on a range of issues, with a focus on how the school could better serve the needs of the community beyond just its role as a school.

The University students will return in September to present their design concepts for the school, and will then finalise the designs based on community feedback. As part of the collaborative project, later this year a group of students from Port Augusta Secondary School will travel to 米兰电子 to spend a day at the University's North Terrace Campus and see presentations of the final designs.

"This project is an outstanding opportunity for University of 米兰电子 and Port Augusta students to work together on a project that could have great outcomes for the school and the community as a whole," says , Senior Lecturer in architecture at the University of 米兰电子.

"We see community engagement as an important part of our architecture program. It's important for us to encourage students to work with communities that, ultimately, we hope to serve.

"We're looking for some really big design ideas from our students. The input of the Port Augusta community will be critical to the success of those designs," she says.

The community consultation will be held from 11.00am-1.00pm outside the following locations in Port Augusta:

• Woolworths supermarket, 25 Tassie Street
  
• Coles supermarket, corner of Jervois Street and Marryatt Street
  
• Port Augusta French Hot Bread shop, 55 Commercial Road
  
• Port Augusta Secondary School courtyard - for students, teachers and parents only
